Sibling Support

two brother embracing and smilingMental health issues impact not just one child, but the entire family. Even though they are strongly affected, siblings have few places to get information, safely vent or even get a break. Most siblings whose brother or sister has special needs notice that much of the attention, resources, time and energy seems to be unfairly divided. And siblings can feel angry, resigned and ignored. But when your brother or sister also has behaviors that can be aggressive, bizarre, frightening or embarrassing, there’s even more to cope with.

Supporting Siblings of Explosive Children is a brochure for parents which includes resources and recommended reading.

The Sibling Support Project is a national effort dedicated to the concerns of brothers and sisters of people who have special health, development or mental health concerns.
