Join us by Zoom to learn about ways to support people with disabilities in making decisions about their lives. In Massachusetts, when a person turns 18 years old, they become a legal adult. This means the law says they get to make their own decisions about their health care, education, finances, and other personal matters. Parents of youth with disabilities are often incorrectly told that the only way to remain involved in their child’s adult life is to go to court and become a legal guardian. But that is not true. There are other options—including Supported Decision-Making—that may work better for a person with a disability and their family. PPAL, Conexiones Latinx-MA, and the Center for Public Representation are collaborating to help empower families of people with disabilities through education and information about all of their options for supported decisions in adulthood.
